FAQ

  • What is mediation? Mediation is a voluntary, confidential, and collaborative process where a neutral third party (the mediator) helps people in a dispute communicate effectively and find their own solutions. Unlike a judge or arbitrator, a mediator does not make decisions or issue rulings.
  • Why choose mediation over litigation? Mediation is often faster, more affordable, and less stressful than going to court. It also empowers you to create solutions that are more creative and better suited to your specific needs than what a judge might order.
  • Is mediation legally binding? The agreements reached in mediation are not legally binding until they are put in writing and signed by all parties. For legal matters, we recommend having your agreement reviewed by a lawyer before signing.
  • Do I need a lawyer? You are welcome to have a lawyer present at any point. While you don’t need a lawyer to begin mediation, it's often wise to have one review the final agreement to ensure it is legally sound.
  • How long does the process take? The duration varies based on the complexity of the issues and the number of people involved. Some disputes can be resolved in a single session, while others may require several meetings over a few weeks or months.
